i) The theme of Rhinoceros
ii) Characterisation in the Play Waiting for Godot
iii) Brecht’s idea on the impact of capitalism and poverty
2. Critically examine, with reference to the context, any two of the following: 10×2=20
“The spirit of rebellion makes us seek happiness here in this life; that’s precisely its aim.
But what claim have we human beings to happiness? No, Mrs. Alving, we must do our
duty!”
“Let us not waste our time in idle discourse! Let us do something, while we have the
chance….at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or
not. Let us make the most of it before it is too late! Let us represent worthily for once the
foul brood to which a cruel fate consigned us! What do you say?”
Find Shen Te, and give us a report on her. We hear that she’s come into a little money.
Show interest in her goodness—for no one can be good for long if goodness is not in
demand. Meanwhile we shall continue the search, and find other good people. After
which, the idle chatter about the impossibility of goodness will stop!
